As early as 1926, yearbooks have become a fundamental part of preserving treasured moments for students at R.L. Paschal High School. While pages filled with after school clubs, sports, headshots, and laughter are being flipped, there has been a hard-working group behind it all.
From the beginning of the school year to the end of it, our yearbook staff has spent their time documenting Paschal’s spirit, and triumphs, uniting the panther family through woven experiences.
One of the notable editors who is the leading light of developing the annual book, Charlotte Hall has presented some of the many key points and roles essential for making the class memoir visions come to life.
Issues regarding deadlines, the theme, and staff tools are things Hall needs to make sure are resolved. “My role as an editor on a weekly basis included deciding what pages need to be turned in each deadline, assigning pages to the staff and making sure they have the tools to complete their jobs, and ensuring every page matches the theme.”
As for choosing the theme, communication is crucial in the classroom. Despite the theme not being disclosed yet Charlotte Hall states that the process of picking a theme is done by the editors and Mrs. Buckner. Once this is done, they carefully decide what colors, fonts, and elements are most suitable for the central topic of the yearbook.
The composition of the yearbook is extremely demanding and requires a lot of effort. The priority is to assure that all of the pages are expressive, as well as meeting up to the expectations.
Hall states “Making sure that every page has enough material to be great, finding and writing stories, as well as getting to every event to take pictures, is a difficult task for sure.” Fulfilling these requirements could at times be very intense.
Seeing deadlines across the white board is a reminder that the staff needs to be aware of the clock ticking. “We try to make sure people work on their pages well before the week of the deadline,” Hall says. “Proactive yearbook students usually help pages that are hard to finish and get completed.” This highlights the importance of staff thats willing to take initiative to ensure the progress of the deadlines are met.
Photographers play a crucial role in the making of the yearbook . Their remarkable attendance to the various events Paschal holds is vital to capture radiant storytelling that words cannot express.
“We would not be able to do the yearbook without our photographers, they are a big part of the reason that Paschal’s yearbook always looks so good visually” Hall emphasizes. “It is not easy to attend every event at Paschal, so we really appreciate their dedication and effort to make sure we have the content we need.”
“I am proud of every section of the yearbook,” Charlotte Hall explains, but one she is most fond of in this year’s yearbook is the academic section. Oftentimes, this particular section is difficult to showcase. However, Paschal’s staff have improved and established a higher performance.
“Normally it is the weakest point of any yearbook, but this year it is just as, if not more, beautiful than the other sections.” This new delivery illustrates how inspiring academic excellence is just like clubs, extracurricular activities, and sports.
“I love designing the layouts of pages and organizing information,” Hall expresses. “It is so satisfying when the pages all come together and the book flows cohesively.” Incorporating different elements into one book is not simple, this displays how foresighted editor Charlotte Hall is.
When making the yearbook, it is important to cater towards the liking of Paschal students. While forming the book, Hall hopes that students feel a sense of pride for how great Paschal High School is.
“There really are so many opportunities awarded to Paschal kids that other students never get to experience, from academic to extracurricular involvement, Paschal has so much to offer, and this year’s yearbook really tries to highlight that,” she said. The 2025-2026 yearbook grasps the valuable and endless possibilities for those attending.
To those who are aspiring to become part of the yearbook staff for the upcoming school year, Charlotte Hall has a word of encouragement. “Please put the class on your schedule for next year! It is so much fun, and we love having new people contribute to the project!.”
It is a wonderful way to be a part of one of Paschal’s communities along with making a lasting impact. However, she warns about the big commitment that the yearbook comes with, “be prepared to work hard until the book is submitted- it is a lot more time consuming than people think.”
With the deadlines drawing closer and the last few pages being turned in, it is assured that the staff such as the photographers, editors, and Mrs. Buckner are making this year memorable and bringing it to life.
