As the 2025-2026 Golf Season has come to an end, the Paschal High School golf program has demonstrated its resilience for the sport. With both the boy’s and the girl’s team claiming the District Championship in first place for the third consecutive year.
The Paschal golf team are persistent in their series of accomplishments, setting the stage for the next season.
Despite the crowning achievement of winning District, the competitive semester showcased a team beyond triumphant.
Coach Furtick expresses how the team has displayed immense improvement, “both the Boys and Girls Team are very young, it was encouraging to see the growth and maturity the young kids showed throughout the season.”
In both the boys and girls teams, there are many student in which are underclassmen. These underclassmen consist of sophomores that compete at a high level.
Although many of these athletes have lack of exposure, they have taken on significant responsibilities and performances. These roles helped establish an overall growth as the season unfolded.
The coaching staff states that with the acquiring skills the team is attaining it will be of use, “the experience that the kids gained this year should be very valuable going into next season.”
With only a few graduating senior on the roster, most players are predicted to continue playing golf for the next season, the coaching staff aim to expand its newly achieved prosperity.
Preparation is a crucial and essential element to golfing, along with the team’s execution on the course. “We have an indoor hitting facility here at Paschal that beginners get to work on improving skills,” the coach said.
Paschal High School supplies their gold athletes countless openings for succession.
Aside from training during the school year, the coaches proclaim to play during the summer as well. “We encourage our kids to sign up and play in as many individual tournaments over the summer as possible for experience,” the coach said.
However, Coach Furtick also states how he and other coaches take measures. “We also try to make practice competitive and similar to the situations they will face in tournaments.”
Proactive captaining contributed to the fulfilling and shared attainment. “We had a good mix of senior leadership and young talent this season,” the coach said. “Senior Captain Jackson Hailey for the boys and Senior Mady Rangel for the girls; both did a great job of challenging the young kids to stay motivated and work hard.”
These graduating students have supported the incoming and learning athletes. “We don’t have as many Seniors in the program, but the few we have are wonderful to be around, all leaders and hold the young kids accountable,” he said.
The teams have formed lasting impressions and cherished moments Coach Furtick says, ““For the boys, the Squaw Valley Tournament in Glen Rose, where the season low team score of 6 under par in round 1 was pretty memorable, for the girls, winning District was probably our biggest moment.” The treasured occasions feature the diligence that has been shown in the players.
The team still encountered obstacles disregarding the tremendous performances. Despite qualifying for the 2026 UIL State Golf Tournament in Austin, Regionals has remained a challenge. “The only challenge I would say would be the fact that we haven’t performed as well as we wanted at Regionals for the past 2 years,” the coach explained. “Our goal at the beginning of the year is to make it to the State Tournament, and we have fallen a little short of that.”
Nonetheless, the golf team at Paschal High School continues to be promising and prosperous. Coach Furtick offers guidance for any students that have an interest in embracing the sport “Start as very early as possible and try to find a teacher at a place like Leonard’s Golf Links to help you get started,” he said. “Then put as many hours as possible in working on your game. Golf is not easy!”
Accomplished golfers need to have resilience and endurance. “You have to love playing the game first of all,” Coach Furtick says. “You have to be willing to spend countless hours practicing. You also need to be very patient and honest.”
With the season ending, Coach Furtick states that the team’s focus continues to be on readiness, endeavor, and challenging every round. “We try to have everyone prepared for every tournament and have expectations for every golfer to battle for 18 holes,” he said.
As players gained experience this season attaining the District Championship title, those who will be returning have cultivated more knowledge for the upcoming season. Paschal golf is strategically placed to remain successful to move towards its end goal of reaching the State Tournament.
