A dream come true…marking off an item on your bucket list…a step toward becoming famous or immortal. That’s what publishing a book can mean to many people, and for our very own Ms. Destiny Harrington, the release of her new book of poetry is certainly a noteworthy accomplishment for an English teacher, a mom, and a woman in the 21st century.
The book of poetry, titled “Muses” is a book that reflects Harrington’s life; some good and some not so good. “This book is about moments from my life. It’s divided into the four seasons to help tell more of a story, “ Harrington said.
Harrington said that she always loved art, but she seriously began writing poetry when she was 18. “Muses” is Ms. Harrington’s second book of poetry. The first, she admitted, was pretty dark. Although this book is written for young women facing adversity, it offers a more optimistic journey than perhaps her last tome. ( look it up)
“i may be dainty
but i am far from weak
i may be small
but i am fierce
i may be a woman
but i am far from
Inconsequential” Muses
A reviewer on Amazon says the poetry is understandable and relatable, “clear-eyed, self-affirming, refusing diminishment. Harrington writes with the lowercase styling of contemporary confessional poetry, but her assertions are anything but quiet. These are poems that know their worth.”
The book is available on Amazon, but if you are interested in a signed copy, Ms. Harrington will be at the The Reading Rabbit Bookshop on March 7th from 3:30-5:30. Bring a copy or purchase there. For high school readers, Ms. Harrington says “keep an open mind throughout the book. Getting to the end can help you see the beauty in the world around you.”
Interested in publishing your ideas, thoughts, poems or stories? Ms. Harrington has advice for you. “Write what you know, write what you feel, and let it carry you away. If anyone is looking to publish, I’m happy to answer questions and offer encouragement. Anyone can self-publish, and everything you write is simply part of your journey, making every word worthwhile.”
