Retailers have begun releasing seasonal merchandise increasingly earlier than in the past. This year, fall decor has been out since late July/early August. This causes many consumers to feel like they have to buy every item before it goes out of stock. Some might complain about this, while others have been counting down the days until stores release their latest seasonal decor.
Astronomically, fall doesn’t even start until around September 22nd or 23rd. This is when most states begin to see a shift into autumn weather. However, in the great state of Texas, the weather temperatures often feel like a second round of summer, which discourages many people from being able to enjoy the season. Putting up decorations sooner is how some people choose to get in the spirit and make the season feel like it lasts a little longer.
There is an underlying frustration for the individuals who actually prefer to abide by the astronomical dates. When they go to purchase their fall decorations, they are already all picked over, with fewer options to choose from. Oftentimes, retailers have already moved on to putting out Christmas trees in preparation for the next holiday season.
These two factors are driving forces that leave the great debate unsettled. Time starts to feel rushed, and people spend most of it trying to put up decorations rather than actually being able to take a breath and enjoy the season. Considering the date marked on all of our calendars and the retailer’s push to get decorations sold, which side of the debate do you fall on? Are you an early bird or do you like to be inspired by cooler temperatures before you start decorating?
