Walker is the new soccer and cheer coach, as well as an Earth Systems and Astronomy teacher. When asked what subject she teaches, she said, “Life. I teach life. Gotta keep it real.”
She went to Midwestern State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and a master’s degree in sports administration. She always knew she wanted to work with kids, and her own school experience played a big part in that.
“I had a tough upbringing, but my teachers made school feel like a safe place for me,” she confessed. “I wanted to give kids that same feeling.”
So, what does Coach Walker think of PHS? When asked, she replied, “It’s so big, the kids are huge, and there are so many of them.”
Although it’s been a considerable adjustment, she’s enjoying the challenge.“It’s been great so far, and I’m learning a lot every day,” she claimed. “The kids don’t talk back as much as middle schoolers, but they never get off their phones.”
Walker came to join the Paschal family after 14 years at McLean Middle School, where she taught 7th grade science for six years, did two years of math inclusion and PE, and spent her last six years as the girls athletic coordinator and PE teacher.
She remarked that the biggest difference between middle school and high school is student accountability. “In middle school, the teachers and staff are responsible for pretty much everything. In high school, the students have to take more responsibility for their own success,” she explained.
As a coach, she is looking forward to soccer season the most. “It’s the best sport,” she declared confidently.
She’s also enjoying working with the cheer team, which is new to her. “I didn’t know anything about cheer before, but it’s been fun. I love the upbeat attitudes and excitement.”
When she’s not busy teaching or coaching, Walker has plenty of hobbies to keep her busy. She loves running, hiking, scrapbooking, hanging out with her kids and dogs, and spending time with friends.
Coach Walker has already brought a lot of energy and positivity to Paschal. Be sure to give her a wave when you see her around and help the school welcome her to PHS!
