After graduating from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in English, Ms. Bennett completed her teaching certification through the university’s education program. She spent time student teaching at both Rosemont Middle School and Paschal, giving her experience and confidence in working with both middle and high school students.
Though Ms. Bennett appreciates the similar students as she moved on from teaching 8th graders to 9th graders, she admits, “The middle school experience is just very different. I feel like you have to be a lot more strict.”
She noted that her middle school experience required a more hands-on, authoritative approach, while high schoolers respond better to guidance and encouragement to take ownership of their learning, which is an observation supported by many Paschal staff.
Beyond the classroom, Bennett’s passions include reading and expressing her creativity through her weekly nail color choices. “I enjoy when my students notice,” she shares.
One event Bennett especially looked forward to was Homecoming. She shared that she enjoyed attending the Homecoming game as a teacher, where she got to see her students decked out in school spirit, complete with face paint and festive costumes.
“It was fun to see all my students with their mums, their face paint, and their cute little outfits and stuff,” Bennett recalls. She is eager to experience the energy and community of Homecoming again as a teacher, cheering on the school and supporting her students.
Ms. Bennett is also particularly looking forward to the basketball season this year. She shared that she is already aware of one of her students who is on the freshmen basketball team, and she is excited to attend the games. The opportunity to connect with her students outside the classroom and show her school spirit is something she is anticipating with enthusiasm.
Colleagues and students alike are excited to see the energy and enthusiasm Ms. Bennett brings to her new role. With a commitment to supporting her students’ growth, she is poised to make a positive impact in her first year of teaching and beyond.
