How do teachers and students at Paschal High School keep their work organized between passing periods, lunch, and class time?
Let’s find out! Paschal instructional coach Ms. Yanganida Blow, also known as Ms. YB says that she stays organized by having multiple calendars: a desk calendar and a personal calendar. “I try to spend time on Friday planning out the following week along with a weekly to-do list,” she says. “Although I like being digital, I enjoy a good old fashioned to-do list.”
Paschal teacher Ms. Walker also has advice. “I use a checklist in order of most important or due dates. I organize papers in folders specifically by period, and graded and what needs to be graded.”
Paschal Spanish teacher Ms. Murillo says, “My favorite way to stay organized is by using my notes app or notebook to make checklists! As a teacher, but really just as a person with a lot going on, I have a lot to keep up with. Having visual reminders helps out a lot. If I don’t write things down, I tend to forget about them. I also like to use my calendar app to remind myself about important dates coming up, whether it’s a meeting or a birthday. Yeah teachers have it pretty challenging organizing.”
Another Spanish teacher, Ms. Pedroza, shares her advice: “For me, it is very important to plan lessons and activities in advance so, when the time comes to deliver the teaching material to my students, I will feel prepared and with more confidence to help my students in a professional and a fair manner.”
Art teacher Ms. Lopez says, “I do my best to prioritize what I need immediately vs. what I need in the future. Anything I need on a daily basis I organize in folders close to me and organize those more permanently on a daily basis. Sometimes I like to make my own organization with color, like color coding class periods to try to keep material related to each subject close together.”
Professional communications teacher Mr. Stuckey shares his advice: “I make sure everything has a place, and I try to keep everything organized on google drive”
Ms. Castillo says, ”I use a calendar on my phone, computer and purse. I think the key to keeping spaces clean is having a place for everything. There’s a bin where stuff goes all the time. Everything is labeled so even students are able to keep things organized.”
Students also have many strategies for staying organized. Junior Malaika Mule says that she stays organized by keeping her assignments and class information organized by subject. Freshman James Barden says he likes color coding his notebook to stay organized. Senior Marquez Dean says “I like cleaning my backpack out every few days.”
All of these are great suggestions! Organization is hard, but is an important skill that will help you throughout high school, college, and adulthood. Being organized helps you have more self control. It also minimizes the clutter in your mind and makes it easier to think clearly and make better decisions.
Good luck organizing!
