At Paschal, there is something for everyone. With over twenty-five clubs to choose from, panthers are sure to find their group. Clubs don’t have to be boring and shouldn’t feel like a chore. There are a variety of clubs here: some are educational, some are hands-on, and some may be something fun to do with your friends as a way to be more involved with the school. There are plenty of returning clubs this year but also additional new ones!
New clubs this year include the F1 Club with Coach Haro, Mr. Flores TBD, the Garden club with Mrs. Salavon, Model UN club, Sugar and Spice club, and Jewish leadership club with Mr. Dismuke as their sponsor. Mr. Flores plans to make a club out of a combination of all the existing clubs he has previously sponsored (special interests) in hopes that the new space will allow people to come together and share their interests with people they wouldn’t usually meet.
The Garden Club, is a branch of the Biology Club and has yet to have been approved, but the Biology Club has been in action for the past four years. The garden has been worked on for the past few years between the JROTC and Biology wing. Through their partnership with JROTC, The Garden Club was able to apply for a grant to become a Monarch Heroes campus. Mrs. Salavon, one of the sponsors of the Biology Club said, “Like many clubs on campus, our founders have graduated, and our membership has fallen. We are looking to attract new members through our work in the garden and hatching baby chicks. The garden project will provide opportunities to grow vegetables, ornamental flowers and various plants to attract Monarch butterflies. We plan to add a wheelchair accessible path, some benches, and a reading area.” The Garden Club would be a perfect fit for any one who wants to be more involved with our environment and specialize in the study of migration of butterflies.
Mr. Dismuke is a memorable teacher for many and is kind enough to volunteer his sponsorship to a number of clubs to expand classroom communities. Mr. Dismuke said, “I don’t personally bake anything. I’m not Jewish. And I’m lucky if I get to catch a few world news headlines now and then. So… what I do have is a (nearly) bottomless heart for my kids, an old heart that feels all full-up when I see my guys relating to one another in a positive way, smiling, laughing, sharing with, and belonging to one another.” Mr. Dismuke is pleased to nurture and help make his kids’ interests happen through the sponsorship of many clubs.
The material of clubs isn’t what matters most; it is the relationships you gain, the memories you make, and similar interests and goals you share.
