Prior to his offer from Rice, Tevis had received a lot of traction from multiple Division 1 colleges including Sam Houston, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, Georgia State, Marshall, UTSA, and Navy.
“The biggest thing for me in my commitment to play for Rice [is] the opportunity to go to a very prestigious school and get a great degree, while at the same time playing big-time football,” Tevis says. Rice is in Conference USA with teams like North Texas and UTSA.
He received his official offer from Rice on May 23rd and committed a month later.
With his future in mind, Tevis must put all of his focus into his current season at Paschal, as the Panthers have a vital season ahead of them. Tevis is thrilled for the rest of the season, saying, “The thing that I am most excited [about] for this season is to play and beat Heights. This is one of the oldest rivalries in Texas and I am excited to restore that rivalry.” The last time Paschal faced Arlington Heights in a regular season football game was the 2013 season.
Tevis has high expectations for this season, declaring, “I think we will go undefeated in district play and be district champs, then go a few rounds deep in the playoffs.” With the massive switch to 5A, a lot of doors have opened for the 2024-25 Panthers.
Ultimately, getting recruited by a D1 football program is very difficult, but Tevis was able to do so with his immense talent and skill. His future looks to be very bright with a chance to earn a degree at Rice and live out his dream to play football.
