Women’s March
January 18, 2023
General info
On January 22nd the National Women’s March will be held at the TCC Trinity River campus (300 Trinity Campus Circle 76102) from 12pm to 5pm. There will be speeches as well as a march to and around city hall.
Why?
January 22nd is the anniversary of the piece of monumental legislation to protect the right to womens privacy and bodily autonomy known as Roe v Wade. However in 2022, it was overturned by the Supreme Court, leaving many who advocate for the protection of these certain rights, feeling angry at state and federal governments. The women’s march organizers claim to put “all politicians at every level of government on notice: If you come for our families, our freedoms, or our future, we are coming for your seat.” according to their official website.
Does this interest you? If so, you’re not alone! The women’s march gathers hundreds of participants from all over the city regardless of gender, age, or political background.
What should you bring?
Although nothing is required to show your support for women’s rights, it is best to be prepared!
Here’s a list of things you can bring:
- A fun/creative/empowering poster
- Poster Boards and supplies can be purchased from any dollar store or office supply store such as staples.
- Poster ideas can be found on sites such as Pinterest or Thrillist.
- A water bottle
- Walking shoes and comfortable clothes
- Cash, in case you need to pay to park
- Sunscreen
- It is never a bad idea to bring pepper spray or some form of self protection.
- While rare, there is always the chance that things between opposing parties could cause the protest to turn violent
