Juniors Receive Academic Sweatshirts
December 7, 2018
On Thursday, December 6, over 1,000 Fort Worth ISD Juniors attended the annual Academic Sweatshirt Award Ceremony sponsored by Fort Worth ISD and Lockheed Martin. The ceremony was at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center at 7 pm with a reception beforehand beginning at 6 pm.
The academic sweatshirt distinction began in 1989, when only 100 students were given sweatshirts. 29 years later, however, over 1,000 FWISD students received a sweatshirt on Thursday night. Students earn a sweatshirt if they complete their sophomore year of high school with a weighted GPA of 3.8 or higher. The sweatshirts the students receive have the initials of their high school and the academic banner on the front, and their monogram on the sleeve.
At the ceremony the Vice President of Lockheed Martin spoke, as did The Chief Academic Officer of FWISD.
The Paschal Mariachi Band played before the ceremony at the reception, where food and drinks were served.
Friday morning the Paschal Juniors who received a sweatshirt gathered in the new gym to take a group photo. Throughout the day it wasn’t difficult to spot students wearing their brand new and hard-earned sweatshirts. Students who weren’t able to attend the ceremony could pick their sweatshirts up from the academic office upstairs, where they are still available.
