Winter Sports Are Here

After returning from Thanksgiving break, girls and boys soccer, along with track, quickly began their season with tryouts starting the first Monday back. Although the weather quickly changed to colder temperatures, nothing stopped these teams from getting out and going.

Girls hoping to join the soccer team arrived at school around 6:15am to start their first warm up of the season. Boys soccer and track got the opportunity of trying out after school from around 4-5:15pm.

Getting up before the sun has proven to be a challenge for some of the girl soccer players, but they are motivated by newcomer coach, Michelle Housden, who preaches to the girls that “the little things matter” like waking up and being ready to play. The teams were announced Wednesday after school and they will now begin to practice with their teams for the rest of the season. Their first non district tournament is the Fossil Ridge Tournament which begins over winter break on December 29, 2018. Their first district game is on January 29, 2018 against Sam Houston HS.

The soccer boys have been practicing with their teams since the start of the school year, so they are extremely ready to kick off their season. Their first game is the alumni game which is on December 27, 2018. They open their district season against YMLA on January 19, 2019.

Athletes running track have been going after school everyday to get their workout in and to prepare for their upcoming season which starts in January 2019. The individual events include the 3200m, 1600m, 800m, 400m, 200m, 100m, long jump, shot put, triple jump, high jump, pole vault and a variety of distances in hurdles. The team races include the 4×100, 4×200 and the 4×400.
