Senior Class Homecoming Display Removed Suddenly Due to Security Risk
October 25, 2018
The senior class Homecoming decorations came crashing down Monday morning after Student Council members spent four hours crafting a circus tent display on Sunday afternoon. The tent, according to Paschal security, was blocking a key security camera and had to be torn down. Lucy Ariola, a senior who helped with the decorations, said that Student Council members contributed their own money to purchase the materials for the tent. The cost for materials was estimated at ninety dollars.
Alex Page, Student Body President, said “It would have been nice to have been informed about the problem so that we could have fixed the issue without taking down the entire display that we worked on for hours.”
“It’s unfortunate,” Page said, “that FWISD security forced all of the decorations to be taken down, but we made the best of it and the fifth period leadership class worked hard to salvage the worn down materials and put up as much as we could.”
According to Ms. Tucker, a security guard at our school, the Paschal security team was notified by Carlos Molina, the head of FWISD Safety and Security, to take the decorations down immediately early Monday morning.
The Pantherette reached out via email to the district’s Safety and Security department to inquire why the entire display was removed instead of just the one panel of fabric that was blocking the security camera. FWISD Safety and Security has not responded.
