This past Wednesday, Paschal students gathered to commemorate the people who lost their lives and those who served during the September 11th terrorist attack in 2001. The assembly started with a Cadet/Lieutenant from JROTC, Colonel Cesar Alvarez, welcoming the students with a small speech about the timeline of the 9/11 attack and the purpose of the ceremony. Then, the color guard posted the flags while the choir and band performed the national anthem. When the anthem was finished, cadets placed the memorial wreath and Cadet Erika Willis came out to the podium and recited “Innocence Lost Forever on 9/11” by Roger Simon. Finally, the guest speaker from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s office, Chaplain Wesley McDuffie, shared how he knew that the “job was to rescue” and encouraged students to do a job not just for the money, but to be selfless.

On September 11th, 2001, two planes, American Airlines flight 11 and United Airlines flight 175, were hijacked and crashed into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center. A third plane, American Airlines flight 77, crashed into the Pentagon in Virginia. Another plane was supposed to crash into Washington D.C. but failed after passengers foiled the hijackers. Almost 3,000 people lost their lives because of the event that day.

Paschal English teacher Mrs. White shared her experience of where she was and what she was doing when the attack happened. “It was my first year teaching and we were giving a benchmark, and when I heard what happened, I didn’t believe it,” She said.  “We turned on a television and I called my mom and I still did not believe it.” While most adults know where they were and what they were doing when the attacks occurred, many high school students were not alive during the attacks. So, how are they learning about 9/11?

Teachers are incorporating the attacks into their lessons within their history classes and talking about how this impacted a multitude of families and people’s opinions on certain religions. This topic is sensitive for children and they are assured that this should not be something that scares them, but something they should know about.  However, for older students it is important to honor those who went through this event. payday loan займ экспресс красногорскзайм экспресс серпуховбыстрый займ улан удэ срочный займ на карту сбербанказайм онлайн москвазайм онлайн 24 часа
