The third annual Drew Medford Memorial baseball tournament took place over the first weekend of Spring Break. The tournament was hosted by Paschal and includes 15 other teams. The tournament is held annually in honor of former Paschal baseball player Drew Medford who tragically passed away in a car accident in the summer of 2016 after his senior year at Paschal. He was a star pitcher committed to play baseball for TCU.

The tournament is a very special tournament, embodying his life and rewarding baseball seniors participating in the tournament with a scholarship. Last year 44,000 dollars were awarded to 16 senior players last year. In order to receive the scholarship you must be chosen by the coach of your team and exemplify the great characteristics Drew was known for: the drive to succeed, humility, empathy for others, and leadership on the baseball team. If you wish to donate to the scholarship fund visit https://www.dmed12.org/ to make a donation.

Senior Aubrey Morris said, “Playing in this tournament is very special to me and all the seniors, since we’re the last class in the baseball program when Drew was a senior. Celebrating his life with the game he loved and 16 scholarships is a great way to honor his legacy, and I’m very proud to be a part of it.”

The Panthers finished the tournament with two wins and three losses. Paschal lost a heartbreaker in extra innings in their final tournament game versus our rival, Arlington Heights. The highlight play of the tournament was when Raul Aragon hit a homerun in the tournament finale to take the lead against Arlington Heights. Paschal has started district play and looks forward to carrying on Drew’s legacy throughout the season.
