Paschal Jazz Takes on Reno, Nevada

Last weekend Paschal Jazz Ensemble 1 performed at the 10th annual Jazz Education Network (JEN) in Reno, Nevada. They were one of two high school Jazz groups invited from all over the nation to perform at the convention, a huge honor for both the jazz program and Paschal High School.

Jay Jennings, trumpet player and member of the three time Grammy award winning band “Snarky Puppy”, performed with the group, along with Paschal alumnus Gregory Newman of the UNT One O’clock Lab Band.

Many well known Jazz groups performed at the convention, such as the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra, coming from across the nation and even around the world, like one group from Singapore.

Students met their “Jazz musician heroes,” Paschal Jazz director Matt Sawyer said, “Including Taylor Swift’s saxophonist.”

“This trip was an honor and a dream come true,” Mr. Sawyer said. “It is such a huge celebration of our kids and all of the terrific things happening in the district for our music programs.”

Below is a recording of the performance from the Paschal Jazz Facebook page.
